(UNDATED) - Friday is the last day to file to run in Indiana’s primary.
Eight Republican state legislators face primary challenges so far.
Goshen Tea Party activist Curt Nisly, who briefly considered a run for Congress, says several people urged him to take on Syracuse Representative Rebecca Kubacki instead. He contends her vote last year against putting the Common Core curriculum standards on hold shows she's not listening to her constituents.
The Indiana Chamber has endorsed Washington City Councilman Eric Bassler's challenge to Shelburn Senator John Waterman. The Chamber rated Waterman the least business-friendly Republican in the Senate, and ranked his record the third-worst among all senators.
The heated debate over a gay-marriage ban doesn't appear to be driving primary challenges. Nisly has criticized Kubacki for voting against the ban, but he was already in the race by then.
Bartholomew County Council president Ryan Lauer is challenging House Elections Chairman Milo Smith, who got the amendment to the floor after it stalled in another committee. But Lauer's focused his campaign on economic and education issues. He says people began urging him to run last fall.
