Police To Finish Investigation Into Grocery Store Killing By March

Last updated on Monday, February 17, 2014

(ELKHART) - Indiana State Police say they expect to wrap up their investigation into a January double-slaying at an Elkhart grocery store by next month.

State Police Sgt. Trent Smith tells The Elkhart Truth that three detectives are working on the case full-time and expect to have it finished by early March.

The case will then be forwarded to the Elkhart County Prosecutor's office for review.

Police say 22-year-old Shawn Bair entered a Martin's Super Market in Elkhart on Jan. 15 and fatally shot 20-year-old store employee Krystle Dikes and 44-year-old shopper Rachelle Godfread.

Bair then pointed at gun at the store's manager, but that employee escaped when Bair was distracted when police arrived at the store.

Bair was then fatally shot by two Elkhart police officers.

Godfread was an Evansville native.
