(FRANKLIN) - Police are investigating a fatal shooting at a home in Johnson County, and another death nearby in what Sheriff Doug Cox termed a “murder-suicide.”
David MacAnally, of WTHR reports, the first shooting was reported shortly after 10 p.m. at a home on Bridlewood Drive in Franklin. Police say four people were shot there.
Franklin Mayor Joe McGuinness confirmed one person, described by police as a 19-year-old woman, died in the shooting.
Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox told Eyewitness News the second fatality in what appears to be a murder suicide occurred in the 2700 block of CR 400 North, southeast of Whiteland.
The deputies were responding the a resident's phone call about an unknown vehicle on their property. As the officers approached a blue Ford Mustang to confront the driver, they say he shot himself.
Cox said the man with the Mustang used a rifle to shoot himself while outside the car.
A blue Mustang fitting the same description had been seen leaving the Bridlewood house after the first shootings occurred. That car has been impounded for investigation, according to Cox.
Police say the shootings stemmed from a domestic dispute in the residence. None of those four shot in the Bridlewood home have been identified by law enforcement.
Cox said the Johnson County coroner has been to the grain bin scene.
Franklin city police are investigating at Bridlewood. The second scene on 400 North is in the jurisdiction of the Johnson County Sheriff's Department.
"All we know at this point is we have a domestic-related situation. Suspect had a handgun, shots were fired. Four persons shot, three injured, at this point, one confirmed deceased. No information on the suspect as of yet," said Franklin Police Chief Tim O'Sullivan at the Bridlewood scene.
One of those injured appeared to suffer a minor flesh wound. Eyewitness News saw what looked to be a female patient sitting in the back of an ambulance while a medic applied a bandage to her forehead.
Police have much of Bridlewood Drive closed off as they talk to neighbors and look for evidence on the ground around a house.
