New K-9 Officer To Hit Newburgh Streets

Last updated on Tuesday, February 25, 2014

(NEWBURGH) - There’s a new canine in town.

The Newburgh Police Department welcomed Alex to their team late last year. He went through seven weeks of training at the Top Dogs K-9 Academy and is now ready for the streets.

Eric Mitchell, with the department, was selected to be in charge of Alex. He says it's something he's always wanted to do.

"It was always a dream of mine as I became a police officer to want to be a canine officer and the opportunity presented itself. I was lucky enough to be chosen," Mitchell says.

Mitchell says Alex is a multiple-purpose-dog, which means he can find drugs and catch criminals.
