(HANCOCK CO.) - A Greenfield man who went missing as a boy 18 years ago during a custody battle has turned up in Mexico.
The Hancock County Sheriff's Department and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children announced that Nathan Slinkard has been located.
Nathan Slinkard along with his brother Andrew and sister Sydney have been missing for 18 years from Greenfield. They have been missing since October 1995 when their mother failed to return them after a court order.
Nathan Slinkard turned up at the United States Consulate in Guadalajara, Mexico last week, identifying himself and saying he wanted to return to the United States. He provided his Social Security card and his birth certificate to authorities. He was also identified by scars.
Investigators on the original case were contacted and assisted in Nathan Slinkard's return to the United States. The United States Consulate in Guadalajara provided him with a temporary passport to allow him to return to the United States.
Two days after turning up at the consulate, Nathan was reunited with his father, Steve Slinkard, and his aunt.
The family has asked for privacy.
The Hancock County Sheriff's Department did not provide information on Nathan's siblings.
