Man Sentenced To Jail For Stealing Electricity

Last updated on Wednesday, February 12, 2014

(ANDERSON) - A central Indiana judge has given a man a two-year prison sentence for bypassing electric meters to steal power for his home and business.

Anderson utility officials estimate 53-year-old Calvin Turner stole about $10,500 worth of electricity between early 2010 and March 2012.

Turner pleaded guilty on two counts of theft. The Herald Bulletin (http://bit.ly/1kyjDuZ ) reports the Madison County judge said during Monday's court hearing that Turner never started paying the $200 a month in restitution that he had promised in September.

Turner said he was sorry for his actions and that he had lost his trucking business and home.

Anderson utilities manager Susie Stapleton says Turner's electric service was discontinued in 2009 with about $7,000 in overdue bills.
