IU Health And UnitedHealthcare Finalize Deal

Last updated on Friday, February 7, 2014

(INDIANAPOLIS) - IU Health and UnitedHealthcare finalized a deal that will give patients uninterrupted service.

The agreement is retroactive to Jan. 1, 2014. Previously, IU Health said UnitedHealthcare patients would continue to receive special "in-network" status because both sides were close to an agreement. They've been negotiating since the existing contract ran out on Dec. 31, 2013.

Dr. John C. Kohne, chief medical officer, Indiana University Health, thanked patients for their "loyalty and patience" during negotiations.

The new agreement means IU Health doctors and facilities are again in-network providers in UnitedHealthcare insurance plans. All services provided by IU Health to patients since Jan. 1, 2014 will be billed as in-network.

An estimated 400,000 Indiana patients are insured by UnitedHealthcare.
