(INDIANAPOLIS) - State troopers are warning Hoosiers this week of a problem in the state involving candy and cannabis.
Indiana State Police (ISP) said Thursday that troopers and local police are finding candy laced with Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC - the activecompound in marijuana that produces a "high." ISP officials said there is no odor to the candy, making it that much more difficult to spot.
ISP said most of the candy resembles suckers, hard-rock candy, gummy bears and gummy worms - and they may even appear to be in their original, unopened packaging.
"These candies look so much like regular candy that children or even adults won't hesitate to consume them," officials said.
ISP said parents should inspect their kids' candy and be suspicious of unwrapped or re-wrapped candy in unfamiliar packaging.
"We wanted to warn parents simply because this is something new teens are doing in our area," ISP Sgt. Todd Ringle said. "It would be easy for a student to eat candy in history class and get high without the teacher's knowledge."
