Indianapolis Cut From List For Republican National Convention Sites

Last updated on Friday, February 28, 2014

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indianapolis is out of the running to host the 2016 Republican National Convention.

A report from the Washington Post says the RNC will choose between Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, Denver, Dallas, Kansas City, Las Vegas and Phoenix.

The convention brings in over 40,000 visitors to the host city.

However, Indianapolis is still among several cities expressing interest in hosting the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Cleveland, Columbus, Dallas, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Nashville, Newark, and Salt Lake City are also interested in hosting the DNC that year.

It costs cities tens of millions of dollars to host the political conventions, but the payoff is expected to be between $150 million to $200 million in revenue brought into the host city.
