Police Find Wanted Man Hidden Under His Mattress

Last updated on Friday, February 28, 2014

(CHARLESTOWN) - This felon brought a whole new meaning to the classic gang-war phrase of “going to the mattresses.”

Indiana State Police troopers got a tip Wednesday night that a wanted felon - Charles F. Jackson, 43 - from Clark County had been spotted at an apartment in Charlstown, Ind.

When troopers headed to the residence, they said they found Jackson hiding between a mattress and box springs in the master bedroom of the apartment.

When they found him, Jackson reportedly refused to surrender to the troopers or follow their orders, so they had to use a stun gun to subdue him.

Jackson was arrested and preliminarily charged with resisting law enforcement, a misdemeanor, and five outstanding warrants with 14 charges that had been issued through Clark County: three Class-C felonies, five Class-D felonies and six misdemeanors.

Jackson was arrested in October of 2012 after state police said he led troopers on a vehicle and foot chase following a pullover. ISP said he sped off to lead the chase due to the fact that he was wanted out of Clark County on two different warrants involving criminal law enforcement and criminal recklessness with an automobile.
