(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana State Excise Police officers cited four bars and clubs for illegal gambling related to betting on Sunday’s Super Bowl.
Excise officers also seized approximately $93,065.00 from the bars and clubs.
On Jan. 23, excise officers cited Gary Sportsman Club, 10101 Madison Street, Crown Point, Ind., on a preliminary charge of public nuisance for promoting professional gambling, a Felony. Officers seized evidence of betting on today's Super Bowl, as well as approximately $27,570.00.
On Jan. 30, excise officers cited Kenwood Tap, 6247 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond, Ind., on a preliminary charge of public nuisance for promoting professional gambling, a Felony. Officers seized evidence of betting on today's Super Bowl, as well as approximately $11,000.00.
On Feb. 1, excise officers cited Bridges Scoreboard, 121 N. Griffith Blvd., Griffith, Ind., on a preliminary charge of public nuisance for promoting professional gambling, a Felony. Officers seized evidence of betting on today's Super Bowl, as well as U.S. Currency expected to total approximately $53,750.00.
Also on Feb. 1, excise officers cited Moose Lodge #1482, 200 E. Main Street, Attica, Ind., on preliminary charges of hindering enforcement, and public nuisance for professional gambling and promoting professional gambling, a Felony. Officers seized evidence of betting on today's Super Bowl, as well as approximately $745.00 in cash and checks written as payment for bets placed. The hindering enforcement charge stems from false statements made to excise officers by a club trustee.
Additional criminal charges related to professional gambling, promoting professional gambling and corrupt business influence are possible against those involved in these illegal gambling operations. Participants could face charges of unlawful gambling, a Class B Misdemeanor.
As the enforcement division of the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission, the primary mission of the Indiana State Excise Police is to promote public safety by enforcing Indiana's Alcoholic Beverage Code. While excise officers have the authority to enforce any state law, they focus primarily on alcohol, tobacco and related laws.
