Education Officials Consider Delaying ISTEP+ Testing

Last updated on Monday, February 3, 2014

(KOKOMO) - Indiana education officials are weighing the possibility of delaying ISTEP+ testing to give schools hit by several snow days more time to prepare students for the crucial tests.

State education department spokesman Daniel Altman says the agency is aware of the predicament schools face, but no decision will be made on whether testing might be postponed until the winter weather ends. ISTEP+ testing is scheduled for March and April.

Altman tells the Kokomo Tribune the department is looking at its options. He says waiting until winter ends will allow officials to "see what schools missed how many days."

Northwestern Elementary School Principal Ron Owings is worried students at his Kokomo school might not be able to make up for lost time. He says "the ramifications are pretty great."
