DNR State Parks & Reservoirs 2013 Photo Contest Winners Named

Last updated on Tuesday, February 25, 2014

(UNDATED) - The 12 winners of the DNR State Parks & Reservoirs Flickr Photo Contest portrayed Indiana’s natural beauty in the best light — literally.

The images show sunrises and sunsets, starry skies and mid-day landscapes, rustic streamside cabins, fishermen, waterfalls, wildlife and more. All images were required to be of a DNR State Parks & Reservoirs property in 2013.

"These images showcase the beauty, diversity and fun to be had at DNR properties, and I bet almost everyone who looks at them will find an image that makes them say, 'Wow! I didn't know we had a place like that in Indiana,'" said Ginger Murphy, assistant director for stewardship for DNR State Parks & Reservoirs.

Several winning photos are in a slideshow at stateparks.IN.gov/8111.htm.

The DNR awarded a 2014 Annual Entrance Pass valid for Indiana's 32 State Park & Reservoir properties to each winner.

Photos were nominated by the public and DNR staff.

You didn't have to be a photographer to win either. A drawing was held to award annual passes to two of the people who nominated photos to win.

The 2013 winning photographers, their hometowns, and the properties they photographed are: Sarah Douthitt, Burns Harbor, Potato Creek State Park; Gary Scroggins, Columbus, Brown County State Park; Otis Harville, Carmel, Spring Mill State Park; Norman Benjamin, Wabash, Salamonie Lake; Nick Thompson, Greenwood, Brown County State Park; J. Hillenburg, hometown unavailable, Patoka Lake; Gary Ratliff, hometown unavailable, Summit Lake State Park; Rebecca Smith, Bloomfield, Shakamak State Park; Pam Florence, Franklin, Prophetstown State Park; Mike Milspaugh, Marion, Salamonie Lake; Mike Cutshaw, Camby, Cataract Falls State Recreation Area at Cagles Mill Lake; Dave Lippert, Madison, Clifty Falls State Park.

The 2014 contest is underway. Photos can be submitted until Dec. 31 at the DNR State Parks & Reservoirs Flickr page flickr.com/groups/indianadnr. Photos must have been taken at a state park or reservoir.

For information about the contest, see stateparks.IN.gov/5997.htm.
