Columbus Woman Homeless After Weekend Fire

Last updated on Tuesday, February 18, 2014

(COLUMBUS) - The Columbus Fire Department responded to the blaze at 2871 Lamplight Drive in Candlelight Village at 4:30 a.m. Sunday. The lone resident was not home.

Capt. Mike Wilson says firefighters arrived to find the mobilehome fully engulfed. With heavy fire conditions, Wilson says firefighters had to extinguish the blaze from outside due to the dangers of structural collapse.

Crews removed most of the remaining siding to safely apply water to the flames.

Wilson said that once the fire was put out, firefighters remained on scene for several hours extinguishing hot spots.

The trailer was a total loss and damages are estimated at $20,000.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Wilson noted that Duke Energy officials told firefighters that the home's power had been disconnected prior to the fire.
