(INDIANAPOLIS) - An Indianapolis Airport police officer was arrested this morning for driving drunk and hitting a man who was changing his tire on the side of the interstate.
Indiana State Police say 24-year-old Lindsay Standeford of Mooresville worked for the Indianapolis Airport Authority but was off duty at the time of the accident.
58-year-old Paul Hines of Indianapolis was off the roadway changing the right front tire on his vehicle on the right side emergency shoulder on I-65 northbound near the 112.5 mile marker at about 4 a.m. Saturday.
The crash investigation revealed that Standeford crossed the white fog line and struck the left rear of Hines vehicle with the right front of her vehicle. Hines vehicle was shoved forward and to the right pinning him between his vehicle and the guard rail. Standeford's vehicle came to rest on the right side emergency shoulder ahead of Hines vehicle.
Hines was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition with upper body injuries. Standeford was not injured.
During the course of the investigation troopers became aware that Standeford may have been operating her vehicle while impaired. Standeford submitted to a certified chemical test with results of .14% BAC.
She was transported to the Marion County Arrestee Center without incident and is facing charges that include Operating a Motor Vehicle while intoxicated causing Serious Bodily Injury, a Class D felony.
The interstate remained open during the course of the investigation.
The Indianapolis Airport Authority issued a statement saying they are aware of their employee's arrest and "express our deepest sympathies and our concern for the person injured."
Airport officials say Standeford has worked at the IAA as an airport police officer since December 27, 2010.
