Last updated on Thursday, January 9, 2014

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A woman was critically injured in a fire at an Indianapolis care facility.

The fire broke out Tuesday evening in a resident's room at Bethany Village on Shelby Street. Two nurses noticed the resident's emergency light turn on and investigated. When they discovered the fire in the room, one of the nurses put it out with a fire extinguisher.

The resident, a woman in her 80s, went into cardiac arrest and was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Fifteen of the facility's 68 residents were on the floor where the fire occurred. They were evacuated to another part of the building.

No other injuries were reported in the fire, which was confined to the woman's room. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
