Rock Star Phil Everly Dies At 74

Last updated on Monday, January 6, 2014

(LOS ANGELES) - Phil Everly, half of the brotherly rock duo “The Everly Brothers,” died Friday at the age of 74, The Los Angeles Times reports.

Everly's wife, Patti, told the newspaper her husband died of complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She said the disease was the result of a habit of smoking cigarettes.

Performing with his brother, Don, The Everly Brothers performed dozens of chart-topping hits in the late 1950s and early 1960s, including "Wake Up Little Susie" and "Bye Bye Love."

The brothers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's inaugural class in 1986.
