Push To Expand Lifeline Law

Last updated on Thursday, January 23, 2014

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana’s Lifeline Law may soon give legal protection to minors who report any type of emergency.

A state Senate committee voted unanimously Wednesday to expand the law which currently gives protection to minors who report alcohol offenses.

Dawn Finbloom of Carmel, whose son Brett died of alcohol poisoning in 2012, testified in favor of the change.

"I've been told about six young lives that have been saved by what I call Brett's message," she said. "Brett's message is the Lifeline Law."

Indiana University students also testified about a need for the law to cover sexual offenses and drug overdoses.
