(BARGERSVILLE) - A Greenwood police officer has been arrested for battery after getting into a fight at a New Year’s Eve party.
Sheriff's deputies say a 911 call around 1 a.m. reported Joey Rodriguez was out of control and throwing punches.
Deputies say they found Rodriguez bleeding and tried to help him into a car to take him to the hospital -- they say Rodriguez slugged a deputy and a Bargersville police officer and had to be handcuffed.
Authorities say Rodriguez kept trying to kick officers and paramedics as he was strapped onto a gurney.
Police say the Greenwood police chief drove to the scene in person to suspend Rodriguez for five days -- he'll seek harsher discipline from the police merit board.
