(UNDATED) - City and state officials are reminding people to stay indoors and off the roads as crews continue to battle the snowstorm which hit hard Sunday in Central Indiana.
Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard says the subzero temperatures expected Monday and Tuesday create the biggest threat. He says everyone, especially children, should stay inside but also reminds residents to check on their neighbors, especially the elderly.
Many counties are under travel warnings which means only emergency personnel should be on the roads.
John Erickson with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security says it's best for people to stay in their homes in order to let the plows do their job but also to allow emergency crews to handle major emergencies.
Erickson says if you absolutely have to travel, make sure to let someone know where you're going and what route you're taking. He says to make sure your cell phone is charged so you can call for help if needed.
Mayor Ballard says city offices will be closed Monday and is asking for businesses to do the same. He says if businesses must be open, he's asking business owners to wait until at least noon Monday to do so.
