New System Designed To Keep Tabs On Prison Inmates

Last updated on Thursday, January 30, 2014

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A new Indiana Department of Correction notification system will give law enforcement the ability to keep tabs on prison inmates.

Law enforcement officers were able to sign up to receive emails about certain people released from prison. It allows an officer to receive customized notification and the ability to perform geographic searches. The system now allows officers to get information about inmates inside the state's 20 adult correctional facilities, on work release or parole.

IDOC Commissioner Bruce Lemmon says the new program will help the community - specifically crime victims - be more informed.
