Kraft Foods Reports Shortage Of Velveeta Cheese Product

Last updated on Wednesday, January 8, 2014

(NEW YORK) - If you’re looking to make a cheesy dip to eat while watching your NFL playoff games, you might run into some trouble.

CBS News reported that Kraft Foods Group has been experiencing a shortage of the iconic Velveeta cheese product. Kraft told CBS MoneyWatch some consumers may not find the product over the next few weeks.

"Any issues with availability are much more noticeable given the seasonal demand," the Kraft statement to CBS MoneyWatch said. "However, we have not heard from many consumers that they are having issues locating the product and we expect this to be a short term situation."

Advertising Age recently reported shortages in particular at East Coast grocery stores. One Brooklyn grocery store reportedly told the publication that shipments of Velveeta would not resume until February because of a plant issue.

The shortage came in what CBS News called the "prime chips-and-dip season," with the NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl on Feb. 2.

Kraft has been producing Velveeta since 1928.
