Judge Sets Deadline For Death Penalty Decision In Sallee Case

Last updated on Thursday, January 30, 2014

(BARTHOLOMEW CO.) - Samuel Sallee is scheduled to go to trial this summer for the deaths of four people in Waynesville.

Bartholomew County Circuit Court Judge Stephen Heimann wants to know by Feb. 20 if the prosecutor has ruled out seeking the death penalty when Waynesville murder suspect Samuel Sallee goes to trial this summer.

Our news gathering partners at "The Republic" report that if Prosecutor Bill Nash doesn't declare the death penalty is out of consideration by that date, Heimann said he'll appoint two new attorneys from outside Bartholomew County who are qualified to handle complex death penalty cases to take over Sallee's defense.
