Indiana To Start Processing Tax Returns Friday

Last updated on Thursday, January 30, 2014

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Department of Revenue will begin processing individual income tax returns on Friday.

The department is encouraging taxpayers to electronically file federal and state returns. The department says it will offer qualified taxpayers a free filing service called Indiana freefile to file their federal and state taxes online. Last year, more than 118,000 of the nearly 1 million Indiana taxpayers who qualify to file taxes for free through INfreefile used it.

The department says taxpayers should visit www.freefile.dor.in.gov to see if they qualify. If not qualified for INfreefile, taxpayers can use a vendor to electronically file their returns.

The department says returns filed electronically are processed in 10 to 14 days, while a paper return can take up to 12 weeks.
