Last updated on Wednesday, January 15, 2014

(HUNTINGBURG) - A Holland woman was arrested Monday night after walking away from her crashed vehicle in Huntingburg.

At approximately 8:46 p.m., Trooper Brock Werne arrived on the scene of a vehicle crash at the intersection of US 231 and 4th Street in Huntingburg. Upon arrival, Trooper Werne found a vehicle blocking the southbound lane that had crashed into a tree and bounced back into the roadway; however, the driver was not present.

Witnesses on scene informed Trooper Werne that they saw a female running south on US 231 from the crash, and gave him a clothing description. A short time later, Huntingburg Officer Josh Hemmer located 55-year-old Jane L. Fulkerson, of Holland, walking on Geiger Street with a matching clothing description. She was returned to the scene.

After initially lying to officers, Fulkerson admitted to driving and leaving the scene of the crash. During the investigation, officers found that Fulkerson had a blood alcohol content of .13%. Additionally, her driver's license status showed her as a Habitual Traffic Violator.

Fulkerson was lodged at the Dubois County Security Center, without incident. While at the Security Center, it was found that Fulkerson had active arrest warrants for theft, driving as a habitual traffic violator, and operating while intoxicated.
