(UNDATED) - This frigid, storm-filled winter has been a big challenge for homebuilders in Indiana.
Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis CEO Steve Lains says the cold, snowy weather has slowed construction and the number of people out looking for homes.
However, Lains says the pace of sales remains high. Lains says permits hit the five-thousand mark in 2013. That's up 19% from 2012. Lains says they expect another ten percent increase in homebuilding permits this year.
He says mid-February typically kicks off the spring home buying season. Lains says come spring, they'll likely see a backlog in projects that were delayed due to winter.
He says some projects are in mid-construction. Lains says builders need temperatures no cooler than 40 to 45 degrees to keep projects moving at an optimal pace.
