Last updated on Tuesday, January 14, 2014

(DELAWARE CO.) - The Delaware County prosecutor has not yet filed criminal charges against a former Yorktown town employee accused of stealing gas from the taxpayers, Call 6 Investigator Kara Kenney reported.

According to an audit just released from the State Board of Accounts, auditors found Robert Godwin made 17 unauthorized fuel purchases totaling $1,431.76.

Godwin was fired.

Clerk-Treasurer Beth Neff wrote a letter on Nov. 7, to the State Board of Accounts stating the town manager did not want to press charges and believed the loss of his job was enough punishment.

According to Neff's letter, the town called the police department, which retrieved photos from a gas station used by town employees.

After he was confronted about the fuel charges, Godwin did not deny taking the fuel for is own use and he repaid the $1,431.76 in November.

The audit was forwarded to the Delaware County prosecutor's office, but court records show no criminal charges were filed.
