(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indianapolis police said they were investigating the scene where a dead person was found Sunday morning on the southwest side of the city.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) said just before 9:30 a.m. Sunday, a woman found a body in a basement in a residence in the 1800 block of South Belmont Avenue.
Detectives said they aren't sure at this point if the body belongs to a man or a woman, and there were no full-time residents living at the home, which serves as a sort of dog rescue center.
This is a developing story, so there are few other details available. Detectives said very little is known about how the death occurred, including the manner of death, the person's identity, their age and how long the body has been inside of the home.
Anyone with information on the death is urged to call IMPD at 317-327-3475. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-8477 or text "INDYCS" plus tip information to 274627.
