Allen County Has Record Tying Year For Homicides

Last updated on Tuesday, January 14, 2014

(FORT WAYNE) - Allen County ended 2013 with a record-tying 44 homicides, but a case that’s still being reviewed by the coroner could make last year the northeastern Indiana county’s deadliest year ever.

The Journal Gazette reports that the Allen County Coroner's Office has yet to rule on the August death of 51-year-old Steven Dwayne Turner.

His badly burned body was found inside the trunk of a car parked at an intersection. If Turner's death is eventually ruled as a homicide, it would make 2013 the city's deadliest year on record.

The northeastern Indiana county closed the year with 44 homicides, the same as in 1997 when it had a record number of homicides.

Of the county's 44 homicides last year, 42 of those were in the city of Fort Wayne.
