Youth Pastor Sentenced On Child Molestation Charge

Last updated on Thursday, December 5, 2013

(HANCOCK COUNTY) - A youth pastor and former school board member in Hancock County was sentenced to two years in community corrections on charges of child molestation and sexual misconduct with a minor.

Steve Harding was accused of sexual misconduct with a girl whose parents considered the youth pastor a family friend.

Harding was sentenced to three years at the Hancock County Jail with one year suspended and two years executed. However, the court will allow the sentence to be served on Community Corrections, meaning he will not serve jail time.

Harding was also ordered to pay over $400 in fines and court costs.

Court documents say the encounters occurred when the girl was 13 and 14, at Harding's home and at the New Palestine United Methodist Church.
