(VINCENNES) - Heavy snow continues to fall this morning across most of southern Indiana and a second wave of snowfall is anticipated for later today. Road conditions around the state are passable but motorists should use extreme caution while driving.

More than 600 Indiana Department of Transportation salt trucks were out overnight through this morning and treating the roadways and will continue to do so through these winter storms. More than 5 inches of snow has already fallen across southern Indiana with an additional 5-7 inches predicted for the second storm.

In central Indiana, most high-traveled roads are wet with some slush in areas. Southwest Indiana roads are snow covered with areas being hard packed and slick spots. Southeast Indiana roads are mostly wet with some slush in areas. Motorists are urged to avoid non-essential travel as this second storm is approaching.

INDOT crews will continue to plow and treat the roadways throughout this next wave of snow and until all state routes are clear of snow and ice.

Drivers can monitor road conditions and traffic alerts across the state at any time by phone, web or social media. Visit or dial toll-free 800-261-ROAD (7623) for INDOT's TrafficWise Traveler Information Service. For social media updates, visit or
