Indianapolis Police Investigating Murder-Suicide

Last updated on Tuesday, December 17, 2013

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A couple was found dead after an apparent murder-suicide inside a home on the city’s east side early Monday, Indianapolis Metro Police Department dispatchers confirmed.

The bodies were found in the 3100 block of North Gale Street just before 7 a.m. and both victims had been shot, police said.

Detectives identified the victims as Thomas Emery, 27, and Tamika Jones-Fleming, 31. Emery apparently shot Jones-Fleming before turning the gun on himself, investigators said. According to police, the couple was not married and had been dating off-and-on for 10 years.

Police said two children, an 11-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl, were inside the home at the time of the shooting. The children told police they heard the couple arguing Sunday night. They heard a gunshot before they went to bed but didn't realize what had happened until they woke up Monday.

The 11-year-old boy called 911 to notify police about the incident, detectives said.

Police said the children were waiting to be taken into custody by a relative.
