(INDIANAPOLIS) - A man purchased a 42” Vizio television for $500 at a north side Target. Workers later discovered the five $100 bills were fake.
WISH TV8 reports, the crime happened on the 6100 block of North Keystone Avenue.
Upon further review, surveillance cameras in the store discovered the man may not have been working alone. The cameras caught a woman unloading merchandise out of her trunk and taking it to customer service at the store.
Those items totaled more than $2,600. Investigators discovered those items were purchased at a Target in Harmar, Pennsylvania. It has yet to be determined if the merchandise was purchased with counterfeit money.
Police believe the pair are working together because they both got out of the same vehicle that had temporary license plates.
Counterfeiting is considered one of the oldest crimes.
According to the United States Secret Service, counterfeiters have moved from the traditional method of printing fake money. Such as offset printing, that's where a commonly used printing technique in which the inked image is transferred to a piece of paper.
Instead they are producing fake money with basic computer skills.
