Dubois Accident Leaves Two Dead, Two Injured

(HUNTINGSBURG) - An accident Friday morning that killed two and injured others is still under investigation by the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department. Inhaling “Duster” is listed as a possible contributing factor.

Around 8:30 a.m. Friday morning, 18-year-old Marcus Ayala, of Huntingburg, was southbound on U.S. 231 when he drove left of center and struck a car driven by 49-year-old Earl B. Cox, of Myrtle Beach, North Carolina.

Debris from the collision of the Cox and Ayala vehicles then struck a car driven by 76-year-old Lyndel Wasson, of Jasper, who behind the Ayala vehcile.

Marcus Ayala was extricated from his vehicle and transported to the hospital in Jasper, where he died of his injuries.

A passenger in Ayala's car, 19-year-old Hecter Vazquez, of Huntingburg, suffered abdominal injuries, and was transferred to St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville.

Earl Cox, the driver of the second car, also had to be extricated from the wreckage. Due to the extent of his injuries, he was transferred to St. Mary's in Evansville, where he later, died from the injuries.

A passenger in Cox's car, 40-year-old Julia Hutchinson, of Huntingburg, was also transferred to St. Mary's for treatment of injuries sustained in the accident.

The driver and passenger in the third vehicle, Lyndel and Judith Wasson, of Jasper, were unharmed.
