Last updated on Monday, December 30, 2013

(JENNINGS CO.) - A Jennings County corrections officer on the job for three months found himself on the other side of the bars Thursday after an investigation into allegations he delivered a cellular telephone to an inmate in exchange for cash.

The Seymour Tribune reports that 24-year-old Donald Bennett of North Vernon was booked into the jail at 5:28 p.m. Thursday on a Class D felony charge of trafficking with an inmate. Bennett was being held on $2,605 bond pending his initial hearing, according to a news release from the sheriff's department.

Bennett was arrested when he reported to duty Thursday, said Maj. Jerry Shepherd, who is the department's public information officer.
