Woman Donates $50,000 To Elementary School That Helped Her As A Child

Last updated on Thursday, November 7, 2013

(ELKHART) - A woman who credits her elementary school teachers with helping her overcome learning problems as a youngster has donated nearly $50,000 to the school for a technology upgrade.

The donation from Ashley Martin and the Martin Family Foundation will pay to equip Riverview Elementary School in Elkhart with interactive, computerized blackboards known as smartboards.

Martin tells The Elkhart Truth she hasn't forgotten the Riverview teachers who helped her through some learning difficulties when she was an elementary school student. She says those teachers "helped me a lot when I was younger."

Riverview principal Barb Cripe says Martin's donation is a "remarkable gift" and a "vote of confidence" in the public school. She says Martin's donation has boosted teachers' spirits following a rough year.
