(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department detectives have made a total of three arrests in connection with the sexual assaults and home invasion that happened on the north side Tuesday.
Detectives have been working since to solve the crime, which happened in the 800 block of E. 79th Street.
Trey Spells, 18, was arrested and will face preliminary charges of rape, criminal deviate conduct and criminal confinement. He is awaiting processing at the Marion County Jail.
Michael Pugh, 21, was arrested on a preliminary charge of serious violent felon in possession of a firearm. He's being held on $80,000 bond.
Earlier, police announced that they had arrested Alexander Dupree, 23, late Wednesday on preliminary charges of rape, criminal deviate conduct, robbery and criminal confinement. He's currently being held on $200,000 bond.
Police said four or five men broke into a home on East 79th Street near College Avenue around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. The criminals forced a woman in her 50s to drive them to an ATM, stole cash, shot her in the leg, and sexually assaulted both her and her daughter, police said.
Police said the suspects then stole three of the victims' cars, dumping two of them at 62nd Street and Michigan Road. The arrest report shows Dupree's address is less than two blocks away from that intersection.
According to the report, Dupree was arrested Wednesday and transported to Wishard Hospital for a forensic exam. He was later transported to the arrestee processing center.
Online criminal records show Dupree has had several run-ins with police and has served at least two years in prison. As recently as August, records show Dupree was involved in a domestic disturbance.
In 2009, police records show Dupree had a gun when he forced two victims to take him to an ATM and withdraw money, which police said also happened Tuesday with the latest victims. The Indiana Department of Corrections website shows that Dupree was convicted of those armed robbery charges and, in 2010, sentenced to six years in prison with an earliest possible release date of April 2012.
Detectives are looking for possible connections to a similar home invasion robbery near 70th and Spring Mill Road last Thursday. That case also involved four or five black males forcing their way into a home before stealing from an ATM and driving off with the family's Jeep. The vehicle was later recovered.
As a result of the continuing investigation, detectives served several search warrants Wednesday night. At one of the locations, investigators found property from the Spring Mill residence robbery.
