Fort Wayne Apartment Shooting Leaves One Dead Another Seriously Injured

Last updated on Tuesday, November 5, 2013

(FORT WAYNE) - Police say a double shooting at a Fort Wayne apartment just before sunrise that left one man dead and another seriously injured was the result of an attempted home invasion.

The man who was killed was trying to break into an apartment and another managed to escape, police said. A man living in the apartment with a woman and child was seriously injured.

About 6:20 a.m. Monday, officers were called to 1680 Reed Road, at the Black Bear Creek Apartment complex, according to Michael Joyner a police spokesman.

One of the robbers died at the scene and the resident was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. Police said he remained in serious condition early Monday afternoon.

Joyner said the woman and child were not injured.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 436-7867.

If this death is ruled a homicide by the Allen County Coroner's Office, it would be the 40th of 2013 for Allen County and Fort Wayne combined.
