Purdue Student And Dog Die In Fire

Last updated on Tuesday, November 19, 2013

(WEST LAFAYETTE) - A Purdue University student has died in a fire a few blocks from the main campus.

Tippecanoe County Deputy Coroner Matt Wietbrock says 22-year-old Scott Notary of Lafayette and his dog died in the fire early Saturday in West Lafayette.

People who live next door were evacuated about 3 a.m., shortly after the fire was reported. Twenty-one-year Thomas Hanlon tells the Journal & Courier he saw crew members carrying out a man with an oxygen mask and others carrying out a dog.

21-year-old Christina Micca says she ran up to her room to grab her coat. She saw the fire was inches away from her window and she could feel the heat.

The fire isn't considered suspicious.
