Hearing To Be Continued For Man Charged In 1993 Strangulation

Last updated on Monday, November 11, 2013

(LAPORTE) - A pretrial hearing for a northern Indiana man charged in the 1993 strangulation of his 16-year-old ex-girlfriend has been continued until next month.

The LaPorte County Herald-Argus reports LaPorte County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Alevizos continued the hearing for Jason Tibbs to allow prosecutors time to get audio tapes digitally transferred.

The 38-year-old Tibbs of LaPorte is charged with the 1993 murder of Rayna Rison. He was arrested in August following a tip from an inmate several years earlier. The trial is scheduled to begin in April.

Rison's disappearance garnered widespread attention. It was featured on "America's Most Wanted" and it inspired former Oakland Athletics owner Charlie Finley to offer a $25,000 reward for her safe return.
