Gov. Pence Declares November Adoption Month

Last updated on Thursday, November 7, 2013

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Governor Mike Pence issued a proclamation declaring the month of November as Adoption Month in the state of Indiana.

"The State of Indiana and our administration are committed to improving the health, safety and well-being of Hoosier families, especially children," said Governor Pence. "With increased awareness for adoption opportunities in Indiana, we strive to achieve permanent placement and successful adoption for Hoosier children, helping them to grow and develop to their full potential in a safe and loving environment."

Currently, the Indiana Department of Child Services is actively recruiting adoptive families for nearly 100 children, and more than 100,000 children in the United States foster care system are waiting to be adopted.

The proclamation, coincides with an Information & Awareness Adoption Fair that Governor Pence will help to kick off at 4:00 p.m. EST on Wednesday, November 13 in the North Atrium of the Indiana Statehouse.

Representatives from the Indiana Department of Child Services and more than a dozen adoption agencies and associations will be in attendance to provide information on both public and private adoptions, post-adoption services, how to afford adoption, as well as additional available resources.
