(GIBSON CO.) - The Sierra Club and Hoosier Environmental Council are asking the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to reject a permit for Peabody Energy to expand a Gibson County coal mine.
The groups say Peabody hasn't fully assessed the environmental impacts of the proposed expansion of its Somerville surface coal mine.
The groups say the project would destroy local streams and worsen water pollution from coal waste runoff.
