Last updated on Monday, November 18, 2013

(JENNINGS CO.) - Indiana Conservation Officers and the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department were called to investigate a reported self-inflicted gunshot injury in Jennings County on Saturday.

Tony L. Dotson, 20, Indianapolis, was treated at the Jennings St. Vincent emergency room for a gunshot wound to his foot. Dotson reported he sustained the gunshot wound while deer hunting.

Dotson told investigators that he was walking out of the field after deer hunting, when he slipped and fell, causing the 12 gauge shotgun he was carrying to discharge. The slug struck Dotson in the foot.

His injuries are not life threatening. He was transported by helicopter to Indianapolis for further treatment.

He said the safety was on at the time of the incident.
