(UNDATED) - The International Police Work Dog Association (IPWDA) recently announced they have awarded deceased Indiana State Police K-9, “Kilo” with their agencies first “Award of Valor”.
"Kilo" earned this award for his actions on June 24th of this year where "Kilo" was killed in the line of duty.
The "Award of Valor" is defined as an act in which a K-9 risks severe personal injury or death to accomplish their mission and/or to save another from the threat of severe personal injury or death in the act of a K-9 Team.
"Kilo's" handler, Trooper Nathan Abbott, was awarded a plaque, uniform bar and lifetime membership to the (IPWDA).
The International Police Work Dog Association, (IPWDA), was established in 1998, and is truly an International K-9 organization that is inclusive of all dog handlers, both police and civilian, with a membership of over 800 members. The Indiana State Police K-9 handlers belong to this organization as it sets certifications for certain police type situations.
