(CORYDON) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a cave-related death that occurred on private property outside of Corydon late Saturday evening.
Shortly before 6 p.m., Harrison County Dispatch received a 911 call of a male unresponsive in a cave, located off Steam Engine Road. A group of experienced cavers were exploring Blowing Hole Cave, a portion of Binkley's Cave system, when a member of their group went unresponsive. Despite CPR efforts by fellow cavers, attempts to revive 49-year-old Timothy McLain, of Brownsburg, was unsuccessful.
An autopsy has been scheduled, and an official cause of death will be determined at that time.
Indiana Conservation Officers Cave Rescue team members coordinated a recovery effort. Conditions in the cave were treacherous, including chest deep water, strenuous crawls and tight crevices.
National Cave Rescue Commission (NCRC) trained personnel, Indiana Speological Society, (ISS), and other volunteer cavers and grotto members are participated in the recovery effort.
