(COLUMBUS) - Columbus police say a man wanted in the murder of a woman last weekend is in custody in Texas.
WTHR reports, Ryan Allen Klug, 36, was taken into police custody without incident in Galveston, TX by the U.S. Marshals Service. Authorities had been tracking Klug since Friday night.
Investigators call Klug the prime suspect in the murder of Adaobi M. Obih, a 26-year-old native of Nigeria who was found dead in an apartment Tuesday afternoon.
Coworkers at Cummins asked apartment managers to check in on Obih after she failed to show up for work Monday and Tuesday. Employees of the River Stone Apartments notified police when they found the woman unresponsive. Paramedics arrived on the scene and determined she was deceased.
Police records state Obih had suffered "what appeared to be multiple knife wounds, including having her throat cut." A broken knife blade and a knife handle were found in Obih's bedroom. A trail of blood led from Obih's body into what police determined to be Klug's bedroom. Bloody clothes were also found in Klug's bedroom.
Obih recently allowed Klug to move into her apartment to help with living expenses. Witnesses told police the garage where Klug stores his car - and is leased by Obih - had been left open for at least 24 hours.
Police had asked for the community's help in locating Klug, saying "Law enforcement would consider him dangerous at this point."
Last week, Klug told his supervisor at work he was having pressure in his head and difficulty concentrating. Police believe he left the apartment after letting his employer know he would not be at work for at least a couple of weeks. He sent his supervisor a text message stating, "sick tomorrow, then vacation next two weeks."
Police believe around the time of Obih's murder, Klug reached out to the pastor at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Court records show he texted the pastor, asking for a phone call. But when the pastor called him on Sunday, Klug reportedly answered, saying "I can't talk right now."
Representatives from the Columbus Police Department Detective Division will be going to Galveston in the near future to continue their investigation. Police say they will provide an update on Monday.
