Marion Co. Clerk Beth White To Seek Democratic Nomination For Secretary Of State

Last updated on Tuesday, November 5, 2013

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Marion County Clerk Beth White announced Monday that she will run for statewide office, seeking the Democratic nomination for Secretary of State in 2014.

White is in her second term as Marion County clerk.

"Our state's history is steeped in values like working hard, telling the truth and doing right by our friends, family and neighbors -- values I like to call Hoosier common sense," White said in a statement announcing her candidacy. "These are the values I want to bring to Indianapolis as your next Secretary of State."

White said she had expanded early voting and visited schools to get students engaged in the voting process while in her current office.

Before becoming clerk in 2007, White was an aide to Mayor Bart Peterson and also served in the Gov. Frank O'Bannon administration as chief legal counsel and director of job training at the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

"I've had the opportunity to work with public servants who understood the value of inclusiveness," White said. "I hope to follow in their footsteps and leave our state a better place for the next generation of Hoosiers."
