(SOUTH BEND) - An employee of a contractor clearing land on the University of Notre Dame campus has died after being struck by a falling tree.

University spokesman Dennis Brown says the accident occurred about 10:40 a.m. Thursday at a site on the east side of campus where land is being cleared for a new five-acre parking lot. Brown says the name of the worker and the company he worked for were being withheld until his family could be notified.

Brown says he has no further details about the accident. No one else was injured.
