(GREENFIELD) - A new initiative in Hancock County resulted in 21 arrests for underage drinking at a party in Greenfield early this morning.
Police officers with Hancock County's newly launched Underage Drinking Task Force arrested 21 minors for illegal consumption, resisting arrest, false informing, failure to identify and other charges at an underage drinking party in the 6100 block of N. County Road 600 East in Greenfield shortly after midnight last night.
Resident Zachary T. King, 19, of Greenfield, was arrested on preliminary charges of illegal consumption and contributing to the delinquency of a minor less than 18 years of age. He and 13 others were taken to the Hancock County Jail, where they posted bonds of $200 before their release.
Seven juveniles less than 18 years of age were taken to the Hancock County Jail, where they were released to their parents pending charges for underage drinking.
Those arrested this morning will appear in Hancock County Superior Court II tomorrow morning.
The Hancock County Underage Drinking Task Force, which was launched on June 30, is made up of schools, law enforcement agencies and Neighborhoods Against Substance Abuse.
The Task Force includes 38 police officers representing every law enforcement agency in Hancock County. Last night's investigation included the following agencies: Hancock County Sheriff's Office, Greenfield Police Department, New Palestine Police Department, Fortville Police Department, Indiana Conservation Officers and State Excise Police.
Greenfield Central Community Schools, Eastern Hancock Community Schools, Metropolitan School District of Mt. Vernon and the Community School Corporation of Southern Hancock County are members of the Task Force, as well.
As the enforcement division of the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission, the primary mission of the Indiana State Excise Police is to promote public safety by enforcing Indiana's Alcoholic Beverage Code. While excise officers have the authority to enforce any state law, they focus primarily on alcohol, tobacco and related laws.
