Last updated on Friday, October 4, 2013

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Police have arrested a woman driving on a suspended license in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash involving a man in a wheelchair.

The crash happened Wednesday about 8:30 p.m. near West Washington Street and Elder Avenue. Witnesses told police that when a man in a wheelchair was crossing West Washington Street heading south, a cream-colored vehicle sped out of a nearby business and struck him as he approached the curb.

After hitting the man, the vehicle continued east on West Washington Street, police said. The victim was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital where he later died.

Thursday morning, police said they arrested Brandie Thompson, 34, of Indianapolis. Investigators said a witness took down the license plate number of the vehicle immediately after the crash which helped detectives locate a 2006 Chrysler 300 last seen leaving the area.

Thompson faced several charges including failure to stop after an accident causing death and driving on a suspended license.

The victim's name was not released.
